Source of Meaning

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

You continue to ask for “evidence”….there is plenty of it, and I’ve been giving you evidence throughout this discussion, but you do not want to accept it as legitimate evidence because it doesn’t “fit” your perspective or your world-view. Instead of coming at what I’ve presented to you as “maybe this has validity”, you have approached it all, it appears, as “nothing you say has any validity at all”. I’m not faulting you for this because this is the human condition apart from a relationship with God. I assume you have not spent much or any time with true believers in Jesus, nor have you seriously sought out God and sought answers from Him. Yet, you have sought out answers from the “gods” of this world, the scientific minds who start from their own premises. That’s fine, but when you start from a certain world-view and premise and are looking for everything to “fit” into that perspective rather than expanding it to a wider premise, then you will get what you seek…the limited view that we are completely meaningless, the world is meaningless, our existence in the universe is meaningless, everything we do is meaningless, and we are simply blobs of matter with zero meaning in a completely meaningless universe. That, my friend, is the ultimate end of the world-view you adhere to, whether you want to accept it or not. However, you DO have meaning in your life. You say that YOU create that meaning and that man has created that meaning….but logically, if that is true, then there must be an ultimate “MEANING GIVER”…or SOURCE OF MEANING. And because we are intelligent creatures, capable of incredible discovery, that Source of Meaning must also be the Source of Intelligence. I don’t know how to make the argument any clearer on a level that makes logical sense…this is science aside, and purely logic working here to, as you want, “prove” God’s existence. I know your question is why the Christian god and not other gods. I’ve already answered that: all other religions, if you study them, have at the heart of them a list of “dos and don’ts” and are attempts to please some god or gods. The faith espoused in the Bible, especially in the New Testament, is utterly different, not only in its premise, but also in its “fruit”. In addition, there are hundreds of prophesies in both the Old and New Testaments which have unfolded on the earth and which are coming to pass even today. Can I list them all for you here? No, but again, there are books written to this end.

God sees and know your skepticism

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Finally, I do believe that God sees and knows your skepticism. He knows everything about it, and he knows how it was developed in you, who contributed to it, and He is knocking at the door of your heart, even right now, through this entire conversation, lovingly desiring for you to see that He is the one behind the “mountains of evidence” that you say points to his non-existence and that I say shouts of His existence. Science does not explain away God; Science reveals God. Oh, another thing you didn’t address is the *wonderful* scientist Josef Mengele.

Don’t judge others

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Ok, addressing this: your cat: so if you take both the before and after diagnostics into the hospital and ask a non-religious medical professional, he will happily sign a paper that says “it is 100% sure that the cat was healed through a miracle by god, there is no other humanly possible explanation”? i highly doubt that. not having an explanation for something is not the same as having ready-made miracles. see, it is not enough to say “aha! you don’t know! it must be a miracle!”, but YOU are the one who should be able to prove it, because you’re making the claims. it’s called burden of proof.

You say that miracles have to be “proven”….why? You see, you have your very, very limited perspective on life. Everything has to fit into your small-minded boxed thinking. The very definition of a miracle is that it cannot be explained using scientific measures. That is a reality you refuse to accept because that’s outside your box. Whether you accept it or not, you have built a limited box that you can control and feel comfortable in, and anything that challenges that and doesn’t fit into YOUR definitions and YOUR parameters is wrong, stupid, foolish and those who live outside of your boxed-in way of thinking are too. You ask how you have judged…nearly everything you said in the most recent exchanges about others is a rash judgement. You, bottom line, call me stupid. That is making a judgement. You say I am foolish to believe in anything I cannot see. That is a judgement. A judgement says that this is right and this is wrong. You say belief in god is wrong, foolish and stupid. So, you have entered into the judgement room based on your reality which is anything that is not scientifically measurable is wrong and stupid. Your standard of truth is science, period. I know you will say that I have judged the muslim faith, now. You are right, I have. Does this mean I hate the people who adhere to this faith? Absolutely not. Do I believe they are stupid or foolish? Absolutely not. Do I believe you are stupid or foolish? Absolutely not. My deepest heart’s desire is to see them, you, and everyone through the eyes of the faith that my God put in my heart by His grace, and that is the eyes of love and mercy, seeing them as He sees them and loving them with the love of Jesus. I don’t judge you, Bence. I am looking at you objectively…this is what you think and believe and it is the man-centered, atheistic, naturalistic mind-set of so many who have shut-down the spiritual part of their beings. Personally, I love science and am completely fascinated by findings and discoveries…sometimes I wish I would have pursued medicine…and I’m excited when there are new discoveries because of MY starting point. I see it as the beautiful unfolding of God’s creation and creativity. You, on the other hand, are confronted with someone like me, who thinks a bit differently than you, and you judge me, calling me foolish and stupid for believing something that you don’t. I think it is fabulous that you have such a keen, astute mind; do I wish your spirit-man was more alive and awake and open to that which may never be scientifically explained? Sure, but I don’t call you foolish or stupid because you are not there.

English studies and religious objectivity

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

I want you to know that I am writing this first response here WITHOUT having read your last three entries. I am purposely not reading them before writing what I am about to write because I don’t want to write in “response” to your latest three responses, but rather some thoughts I believe the Lord brought to my mind and heart. First, I believe you said in an earlier message that you are finding the Bible to be more difficult to read and understand than you thought it would be. This does not surprise me at all. Spiritual truths can only be understood by the spirit within us. You are reading it simply as a book, without the revelation of the Holy Spirit because your spirit-man within you, at this point, is still not alive. Therefore, the spirit behind the book is nonsense to you because you cannot comprehend what God is revealing through His written word only with your intellect. Which brings me to a second, I hope related point. I remember in one of your responses that you want everything in life to be objective and tangible and measurable and anything that is not that is stupid and foolish and should not be trusted or believed in. You mentioned that subjectivity is wrong. This surprises me a bit because of the major you chose in university. You were an English studies major. My understanding of that is that you had to read many authors and their imaginative writings and thoughts which are not based on science but on subjective experience. Do you simply think they too are insane, foolish and stupid because they don’t look at the world from a naturalistic, “objective” perspective? And really, you are a living contradiction of yourself. You say everything must be objectifiable….i.e. must be scientifically measurable to be true…yet you yourself do not live that way. How do I know? Because you love. You hate. You feel. You have a personaliity. I know, I know, you will try to explain that scientists can measure the brain and see that when you love there is a chemical reaction…of course. However, why did you choose to love your girlfriend? There had to have been some subjectivity in that decision. So, to say that you live by and believe only those things which are objective is not being true or honest about your own life and the way you live. Plus,  subjectivity is ALL around us. There is both objectivity and subjectivity and one is not “better” than another, they are simply different and all a part of the great human existence.

The fall of self-centered humans

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

A self-centered man-centered system is functioning on fear because if they ever admitted that there is a God, then they would be held accountable for their actions and their decisions. So, ultimately, it’s a cop-out on yours and so many others’ parts. You will bow your knee to no one but yourself. You cannot admit, and you have clearly shown that of late in your arguments here, that you could be wrong. You insist that I and the millions of other TRUE believers in the world are completely out of our minds, wrong, and have been the cause of all the problems in the world today. THAT, my friend, is a rash, judgemental statement to make. May I remind you of a man, a scientist, by the name of Josef Mengele, who, during WWII, used human beings for his scientific experiments and then KILLED them. He maimed, sterilized, and brutalized human beings ALL IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE!!!!!!! So, you cannot say that scientists have done nothing but good things to advance humanity because that is just a lie! In fact, the entire Nazi party propaganda preaching the annihilation of an entire people group in addition to those “less viable” in their opinions is a clear indication that scientists are not beyond evil behavior. NO ONE is beyond evil behavior….believer or unbeliever, we are all, I repeat all fallen creatures who have lost connection with our Creator. When one loses connection with the Creator, he has to invent his own form of reality, which is what you have done as have millions of others. There’s an old saying that says “God created man in His own image, and then man decided to return the favor.”
